The Many Benefits of Exercise PDF Print E-mail

Are you feeling a bit stressed out?  Does your stress manifest in ways that do not have positive effects on your family?  Are you exercising regularly?  Are you doing the right kind of exercise for your body?

Exercise is important for a strong body and a healthy mind.  Regular weekly exercise not only maintains a healthy weight, but it also builds strong bones and helps the body to cope with stress.  Just thirty minutes a day of physical exercise can relieve stress and increase emotional well-being drastically.

Endorphins in the body are produced from productive exercise.  These endorphins produce a "feel good" attitude that can last the entire day.  To continue to experience this feeling, you need to exercise regularly!
Exercise also increases the flow of blood to the brain.  As a result, our mental clarity becomes sharper and we see solutions to problems where at first we thought there was none.  Our cardiovascular fitness increases and we enjoy an abundance of energy for the tasks we face each day.

Regular exercise has so many benefits, so why don't people do more of it?  One reason that people fail to exercise is that they can't find the time.  Mothers and fathers are often running from one family commitment to the next, so taking time to exercise falls off the priority list due to other obligations.  Another reason that people do not exercise is that exercising is not easy!

For busy moms, exercising in the morning may be the best option.  Before the day gets going and life begins, we can get our mental boost.  In the morning, exercise can be done uninterrupted and you can get it out of the way before having to get the kids off to school or be at work.

It is not necessary to go to a gym for a workout.  You can practice yoga or lift weights at home.  There are all kinds of exercise videos and DVDs available that give great workouts.  Best of all, when you exercisse in your own home, you don't have to get up, shower, get dressed and drive to the gym!

Another reason that people don't exercise is that they don't know what to do or how to do it.  There are many forms of exercise, such as walking, hiking, swimming, dancing, yoga, pilates, cycling, climbing and many more.  The key to sticking with any exercise is to find an activity that is at your pace and that you like to do.  Yoga, for example, is a relaxing activity that teaches the body and the mind to work in tandem while strengthening the muscles, oxygenating the body and relieving stress.

Walking is still the best overall exercise and all you need is a good pair of shoes and an iPod.  Why not take a brisk walk around your neighborhood in the morning to clear your head and go over your schedule for the day?  For working moms, lunchtime offers a chance to walk with friends and put the stress of work behind you.  For families, walking in the evening after dinner is a way for everyone to de-stress and increases their health.

Exercise boosts our immune system.  It prevents the depletion of minerals in our bodies that usually comes with a prolonged stress response.  Have you noticed that people who are under a lot of stress often catch colds?  This is why.  Exercise can prevent this type of result by keeping our minds sharp enough to deal with the stress in our lives.

Stress reduction is not the only benefit of exercise.  Weight reduction and heart health are also great reasons to get your body moving.  Thirty minutes or more a day can arm your body against the effects of stress.  The endorphins can change your outlook on problems so that finding solutions is less of a struggle.  And most importantly, reducing your stress levels can help you to be a better role model and to live a happier, healthier life.

So, get out there and run, grab the latest Yoga video or sign up for a dance class.  Think of it as a gift to give yourself for working so hard.
