The time U.S. children spend outdoors has declined 50% in the past 20 years, according to the Ad Council. The Forest Service is hoping to change this startling statistic through a PSA campaign entitled “Where the Other You Lives.”
DID YOU KNOW:
• Research shows, that children who play outside: play more creatively; have lower stress levels; have more active imaginations; become fitter and leaner; develop stronger
immune systems; have greater respect for themselves, for others, and for the environment.
• Based on research conduced by Euro RSCG, 88% of tweens like being in nature and 79% of tweens wish they could spend more time in nature.
The campaign ads and interactive website http://youcastcorp.com/discovertheforestlink are intended to raise awareness about the benefits of spending time in nature by allowing children to explore, use their imagination and discover new wildlife. Being in nature frees them from their crazy, scheduled days and offers the ability to get lost in something totally unmanaged, unexpected and utterly surprising. And with a healthy and curious relationship with nature, our children are more likely to feel responsible for its well-being.
So, get your kids outside today before the winter comes and let's spread the word to get kids outdoors!
