We are on the juice day, today. It is not pretty. This morning, started off with a brisk walk down through Aquatic Park where we saw and smelled the effects of the tanker that crashed into the Bay Bridge yesterday . It dumped gallons of oil into the Bay and 7 beaches are closed due to oil washing ashore. We could see the oil on top of the water as it coated the rocks with sludge. It is sad to think of the birds and fish that will suffer as a result of this accident. Hopefully the Coast Guard and Port Authority will be able to clean up the spill and restore the shoreline. Anyway, this was the precursor to the juice fast day...
I started my morning off with a beet, kale, celery, ginger and apple juice (combined into one lovely blood colored juice- aka "I am worthy" from Cafe Gratitude ). After trying to swing a few sips, I downed the whole thing. I thought about plugging my nose, but one of the key factors Terese has stressed with us is being “present” with your food. I was present with it alright. Little did I know that “I am worthy” was the most tolerable taste of the day.
Right now, I am deciding between the other two juices. Lunch is either “I am healthy” which consists of kale, celery, cucumber and lemon juices or “I am bold” which is spicy tomato, carrot and celery juice. I have taken about three sips of “I am healthy” and nearly gagged. How is it possible to gag on this juice, when I would eat these veggies whole and like them? I feel like such a baby! Okay, here I go again. I’m going to see if I can chug it. Okay, I am half way through it. I have to say it tastes like bog water. I feel like a frog might be swimming around in there or something. Ick, trying not to gag.
Taking a deep breath and going in for the finish… I can’t chug it anymore. It is making me feel really ill. Maybe it is the lemon, but I think it is more the psychological fact that I am drinking bright green swampy juice. Only a few more swigs to go til I am finished. Almost done. There is a sort of foam on the last swig. Do I have to drink it? Should I wait to see if the foam goes away and I will finish it later? No, I’m going for it… DONE!!!!!!! I did it! Whew! That last sip had some chunks in it. It makes me laugh as I am writing to you how vile this must all sound. Am I selling you on the cleanse?
As bad as this all sounds, I actually feel really good. Now, I have scheduled a massage at Senspa for 1pm and I am going to sign off and relax. My afternoon torture will consist of attending my oldest daughter’s volleyball party where parents and children will be eating pizza, cupcakes and cookies. I’ll let you know if I survive. Can you imagine what it would be like if they were eating sprouted breads, raw vegetables and sprouts? Not much fun, huh? Oh well, it’s fun to dream. Have a great day! Enjoy your food and chew each bite 20 times! Be present and enjoy the flavors! Think of what I am enduring, it might help! Stay tuned for the final day!
